Gojushiho Dai Instructional

YOI: In the hachiji-dachi position. The fists are in front of the hips.

1. Migi uraken-uchi:

(1A) Bring the right foot back to the left foot, then move it forward. Simultaneously, lower the pelvis with the left fist and raise your right fist above your head.
(1B) Advance your right foot in the zenkutsu-dachiposition. At the same time, lower the right arm to hit the back of the fist(uraken-uchi)at the same time as you raise the left forearm so that it comes into contact with the right elbow in front of the chest.

2. Chudan khawake-uke:

(2A) Turn your head to the left and, at the same time, slant the left foot to the left and raise the left forearm so that the wrists cross in front of the chest.
(2B) In the kokutsu-dachi position, spread your fists so that you can block the middle level(kakiwake-uke)

3. Chudan kakiwake-uke:

(3A) Without altering the position of the arms or the orientation of the upper half of the body, turn your head

to the right and pass the left foot in front of the right foot to rest it on the other side of

the body. (3B) Shift the right foot 45 degrees to the right as you cross your arms in front of the chest (the outer face of the left wrist that rests against the inner face of the right wrist). (3C) Adopt a kokutsu-dachi position, and spread your fists so as to perform a medium level separator blocker(kakiwake-uke).

4. Hidari chudan tate shuto-uke:

(4A) Bring the left foot back to the right foot and then move it obliquely to the left. Simultaneously, extend your right arm in front, to the left, and arm your left arm above, opening your left hand. (4B) Continue your left foot advance to find yourself in the zenkutsu-dachi position at the same time as you run a vertical blockage of the edge of the left hand middle level(tate shuto-uke).

5. Migi chudan gyaku-zuki/Hidari chudan zuki/Migi mae-geri/Migi chudan oi-zuki:

(5A) Still in zenkutsu-dachi position, carry an inverted right punch medium level(gyaku-zuki)…
(5B) … And follow up with a middle level left punch (chudan zuki).
(5C) Without changing the position of the upper half of the body, carry a right frontal whipped kick (mae-geri). (5D) Rest your right foot in front of you in the zenkutsu-dachi position while carrying an elongated right middle level punch(oi-zuki).

6. Migi chudan tate shuto-uke:

(6A) Arm the right hand open above the left shoulder by shifting

the right foot 90 degrees to the right. (6B) Pass in the zenkutsu-dachi position on a 45-degree axis to the right. Simultaneously, run a vertical blockage of the edge of the right hand at the middle level(tate shuto-uke).

7. Hidari chudan gyaku-zuki/Migi chudan zuki/Hidari mae-geri/Hidari chudan oi-zuki (7A) Still in zenkutsu-dachi position, carry an inverted punch left middle level (gyaku-zuki)…


(7B) … And follow up with a middle level right punch (chudan zuki). (7C) Without changing the position of the arms, lay a left

frontal whipped kick (mae-geri). (7D) Rest the left foot in front of you in the zenkutsu-dachi position while striking an elongated left middle level punch(oi-zuki).

8. Migi tate empi-uchi: (8A) Recoil vigorously the left foot, beyond the right foot and simultaneously bring the left elbow against the body. (8B) Lay the left foot behind you, on the same axis as the right foot, in the zenkutsu-dachi position, at the same time as you carry an upward forehand elbow (empi-uchi).




9. Ryu-un no uke:
(9A) Turn your head to the left to look behind you, and without raising the pelvis, move the right foot half a step towards the left foot. Simultaneously, rotate the pelvis to the left, lower the right elbow against the right hip and open your right hand, palm to the sky. Extend your right arm in front of you, bringing your left hand to the right, palm down, just above the right elbow.
(9G) Step back with your right foot in the kokutsu-dachiposition, at the same time as you are running a “wind-blown cloud”(ryu-un no uke). From the right arm, block the edge of the hand obliquely to the right and “hook” the left hand behind the right arm, above the elbow.



10. Kaishu kosa-gamae: Lower the left arm in front of you to block the edge of the hand and simultaneously send the right hand backwards, following a 90-degree axis to the right, swivelling the wrist outwards (so as to orient the palm to the sky). The right hand is parallel to the ground.

11. Migi shihon-nukite: Advance your right foot to find yourself in the zenkutsu-dachi position at the same time as you run a four-finger spade with your right hand(shihon-nukite). The left hand remains applied against the inner face of the right elbow

12. Hidari shihon-nukite/Migi shihon-nukite:

(12A) Throw the left hand in front of you, on a trajectory that passes directly above the right wrist, carry a four-fingered spade(shihon-nukite)with the left hand and bring the right hand back to the inner face of the left elbow. (12B) Wear a new four-fingered spade(shihon-nukite)with your right hand and bring your left hand against the inner face of your right elbow.





13. Ryu-un no uke: (13A) Turn your head to the left and move the right foot half a step towards the left foot by swivelling the pelvis to the left and extending the right arm in front of you, left backhand resting on the right arm, just above the elbow. (13B) Step back the right foot in the kokutsu-dachi position, at the same time as you run a “cloud blown by the wind” (ryu-un no uke): blocking the edge of the right hand middle level, slanting to the right and left hand behind the right arm, above the elbow.


14. Kaishu kosa-gamae: Run a blockage down the edge of the left hand by moving back with your right hand backwards, following a 90-degree axis to the right.

15. Migi shihon-nukite: Advance your right foot to find yourself in the zenkutsu-dachi position at the same time as you run a four-finger spade with your right hand(shihon-nukite). The left hand remains applied against the inner face of the right elbow

16. Hidari shihon- nukite/Migi shihon- nukite:

(16A) Wear a four-fingered spade(shihon-nukite)with the left hand and bring your right hand back to the inner side of the left elbow. (16B) Wear a new four-fingered spade(shihon-nukite)with your right hand and bring your left hand against the inner face of your right elbow.


17. Morote kaishu gedan-uke:

(17A) Send the left foot behind your back, towards your right side, and lean on the right foot to rotate the 180-degree pelvis to the left, so as to look in the opposite direction. Simultaneously, raise your left hand above the right shoulder and point your right arm to the right. (17B) Shift the left foot to the left and adopt a kiba-dachi position by lowering both arms on the left to execute a double descending blockage, open hands(morote kaishu gedan-uke).


18. Fumikomi/Hidari koshi-gamae:

(18A) Without altering the position of the upper half of the body or raising the pelvis, pass the right foot in front of the left leg to find yourself in a position crossed feet kosa-dachi.
(18B) Turn your head to look ahead, raise your left leg mightily in front of you and throw both arms in front of you, at chest level. The right hand is about 10 cm above the left hand and the palms face each other. (18C) Rest your left foot on your left to perform a crushed kick(fumikomi)and adopt a kiba-dachi posture by powerfully bringing the two clenched fists above the left hip(koshi-gamae).

19. Morote kaishu gedan-uke: Turn your head to the right, and at the same time, dip both arms down right to perform a double descending blockage, open hands(morote kaishu gedan-uke).


20. Fumikomi/Hidari koshi-gamae:

(20A) Without altering the position of the upper half of the body or raising the pelvis, pass the left foot in front of the right leg to find yourself in a posture crossed feet kosa-dachi.
(20B) Turn your head to look ahead, raise your right leg powerfully, throwing both arms in front of you, at chest level. The left hand is about 10 cm above the right hand and the palms face each other. (20C) Carry a crushed kick(fumikomi)on your right and adopt a kiba-dachi posture by powerfully arming the two clenched fists above the right hip(koshi-gamae).

21. Ryu-un no uke: Bring the right foot closer to the left foot before rolling it back to a kokutsu-dachiposition, at the same time as you are running a “wind-blown cloud”(ryu-un no uke).

22. Kaishu kosa-gamae: Always in kokutsu-dachi, run a blockage descending the edge of the left hand by moving back the right hand, following a 90-degree axis to the right.

23. Migi shihon-nukite: Advance your right foot to find yourself in the zenkutsu-dachi position at the same time as you run a four-finger spade with your right hand(shihon-nukite). The left hand remains applied against the inner face of the right elbow.

24. Hidari shihon-nukite/Migi shihon-nukite:

(24A) Chain with a four-finger spade (shihon-nukite) with the left hand by

applying the right hand on the inner side of the left elbow. (24B) Wear a new four-fingered spade (shihon-nukite) with the right hand and bring the left hand against the inner face of the right elbow. (24B)

25. Migi jodan shuto-uchi/Gyaku-hanmi:

(25A) Turn your head to the left to look behind you, slide your left foot, in your back, towards your right side,

send the left hand to the left following a circular trajectory and dryly spread the right elbow on your right. (25B) In the zenkutsu-dachiposition, swivel the pelvis powerfully to the left in gyaku-hanmi (oblique pelvis with the left hip opposite the front foot that protrudes forward) by performing a sharp stroke of the right hand .

26. Migi jodan shuto-uke:

(26A) Advance the right foot by arming the right hand over the

left shoulder, back of the hand outwards. (26B) Continue your advance with the right foot to adopt a zenkutsu-dachiposition. Simultaneously, hit the sharpness of the right hand level high.

27. Hidari jodan shuto-uchi/Gyaku-hanmi:

(27A) Still in zenkutsu-dachiposition, step back the

left elbow to arm the hand backwards. (27B) Hit the edge of the left hand level high(shuto-uchi), by swinging the pelvis powerfully to the right in gyaku-hanmi.


28. Hidari jodan shuto-uke:

(28A) Advance the left foot by arming the left hand over the

right shoulder, back of the hand outwards. (28B) Continue your advance with the left foot to adopt a zenkutsu-dachiposition. Simultaneously, hit the edge of the left hand level high.


29. Migi shudan gyaku uchi-uke/Gyaku-hanmi:

(29A) Arm the left fist over the right shoulder by passing

the right fist in front of you, to the left. (29B) In the zenkutsu-dachiposition, swing the pelvis to the left powerfully in gyaku-hanmi, performing an inner/left-side blockage(gyaku-uchi-uke).

30. Migi mae-geri/Migi nagashi-uke/Hidari otoshi-zuki/Migi ushiro gedan-barai:

(30A) Without altering the position of the upper half of the body, perform a right whipped frontal kick (mae-geri).
(30B) As soon as you have your right foot in front of you, move forward with your left foot to settle in the kosa-dachi position. In doing so, lower the pelvis and punch down left(otoshi-zuki)while raising the right fist over the left shoulder to perform a swept blockage(nagashi-uke).
(30C) While pushing on the right foot, move the left foot directly backwards and adopt an elongated zenkutsu-dachi position, both feet on the same axis. In doing so, tilt the bust forward, towards the left leg, and run a right-down blockage backwards(ushiro gedan-barai).

From one end of this technique to the other, the head remains turned backwards, looking towards the downward blockage.


31. Ryu-un no uke:

(31A) Turn your head to the left to look in the opposite direction and, Simultaneously, approach the right foot with half a step of the left foot, extending

the right arm in front of you and crocheting the back of the left hand under the right arm, above the elbow. (31B) Step back the right foot to adopt a kokutsu-dachiposition, at the same time as you are running a “wind-blown cloud”(ryu-un no uke).

32. Kaishu kosa-gamae: Always in kokutsu-dachi, run a blockage descending the edge of the left hand by bringing the right hand backwards, following a 90-degree axis to the right.

33. Migi shihon-nukite: Advance your right foot to find yourself in the zenkutsu-dachi position by carrying a four-fingered spat attack with the right hand(shihon-nukite)and applying the left hand against the inner face of the right elbow.

34. Hidari shihon-nukite/Migi shihon-nukite:

(34A) Chain with a four-finger spat (shihon-nukite) of the left hand

by applying the right hand on the inner face of the left elbow. (34B) Carry a new four-fingered spade attack (shihon-nukite) with the right hand, while bringing the left hand against the inner face of the right elbow.


35. Morote kaishu gedan-uke:

(35A) Move the left foot behind your back, towards your right side, and rotate on your right foot to turn the pelvis 180 degrees to the left, so as to point it in the opposite direction. Simultaneously, raise your left hand over the right shoulder and push your right hand to the right. (35B) Shift the left foot to the left and adopt a kiba-dachi position by lowering both arms to the left to perform a double descending blockage, open hands(morote kaishu gedan-uke).

36. Fumikomi/Migi chudan-zuki:

(36A) Without altering the position of the upper half of the body or raising the pelvis, pass the right foot in front of the left leg and rest it on the other side of the left foot to find yourself in a kosa-dachi cross-legged posture.
(36B) Turn your head to look ahead, dryly raise your left leg in front of you and send your left hand to the right, under your right arm.
(36C) When the left leg reaches the climax of its trajectory, launch the left arm in front of you to perform a vertical blockage of the edge of the hand by arming the right fist above the right hip. (36D) R Rest the left foot on your left side to execute a crushed kick(fumikomi)and find yourself in the kiba-dachi position, while carrying a middle level right punch(chudan-zuki).

37. Morote kaishu gedan-uke: Always in kiba-dachi, turn your head to the right and, in doing so, dip both arms down to the right to perform a double descending blockage, open hands(morote kaishu gedan-uke).

38. Fumikomi/Migi chudan-zuki:

(38A) Without altering the position of the upper half of the body or raising the pelvis, pass the left foot in front of the right leg and rest it on the other side of the right foot to find yourself in a kosa-dachi cross-legged posture.
(38B) Turn your head to look in front of you and, at the same time, extend your right arm in front of you.
(38C) Raise the right leg mightily in front of you and send the left hand forward to perform a vertical blockage of the middle level hand edge, while you arm the right fist above the right hip. (38D) Carry a crushed kick(fumikomi)on your right and settle into the kiba-dachi position, while carrying a right punch medium level(chudan-zuki).

39. Migi uraken-uchi:

(39A) Approach the right foot with the left foot by lowering the left

fist and raising the right fist above the head. (39B) Advance the right foot and adopt a Zenkutsu-dachi position. At the same time, lower the right arm to carry a punch(uraken-uchi),while you raise the left forearm, at the meeting of the right elbow in front of the chest.

40. Hidari chudan tettsui-uchi/Migi chudan oi-zuki:

(40A) Recoil vigorously the right foot and align it on the left foot to adopt a kiba-dachi position at the same time as you administer a hammer(tettsui-uchi),middle level to the left with left arm. (40B) Advance the right foot and adopt a zenkutsu-dachi position as you carry an elongated right frontal punch(oi-zuki),medium level.

41. Ryowan zenpo-nobashi/Ushiro tettsui hasami-uchi/Ryoken koshi-gamae:

(41A) Align the left foot on the right foot, turn head and pelvis 90 degrees to the left, at the same time as you raise the pelvis to put yourself in the shizentay natural position. Simultaneously, throw the right arm 90 degrees to the left on a horizontal axis and extend the left arm in front of the chest, so that the two arms are extended parallel in front of you, in a ryowan zenpo-nobashi posture.
(41B) While pushing the pelvis back, bypass your body with your fists by lowering them backwards. You execute a double hammer punch in scissors backwards (ushiro tettsui hasami-uchi).
(41C) Straighten the bust by arming your fists at the hips. Squeeze the phalangian joints of the index finger and middle finger against the flanks of the body and allow the elbows to protrude from the flanks in a ryoken koshi-gamae posture.

42. Ryoken koshi-gamae: Shift the left foot to the left, then backwards, and rotate the 90-degree pelvis to the left in the zenkutsu-dachiposition, always in the ryoken koshi-gamae posture.


43. Ryo kaishu-gamae:

(43A) Advance the right foot and, in doing so, extend your arms on the flanks and upwards to describe a wide circle around the body. At the start of the movement, open your hands, palms up.
(43B) Continue your step forward with your right foot and settle in the neko-ashi-dachi position by lowering your hands in front of you and then on the sides. The arms cross in front of the chest in a descending position in a ryo kaishu-gamae posture.

44. Morote keito-uke: Still in the neko-ashi-dachi position, bring both hands in and up, and perform a double cuff in “chicken head” (morote keito-uke).

45. Morote seiryuto-uchi: Push forward on the left foot to adopt a neko-ashi-dachi position, while performing a double strike from the base of the hand edges (beef jaw blockage), intended for the opposing pelvis(morote seiryuto-uchi).

46. Ryu-un no uke:

(46A) Turn your head to the left by rotating your feet on the spot to rotate the pelvis 180 degrees to the left. Spread your right arm in front of you by hooking it from below with the back of your left hand (just above the right elbow). (46B) Step back with your right foot in the kokutsu-dachiposition, at the same time as you are running a “wind-blown cloud”(ryu-un no uke).

YAME: Step back the foot and shift it to the left by aligning it with your right foot. Adopt a heisoku-dachi position. Simultaneously, recoil your right hand and send it to the left, above the left arm.
