White
Admiral Limenitis camilla (Linnaeus, 1764) |
Status
.....There have been
a number of White Admiral records in
Nottinghamshire since one at Colwick CP on
14/07/94 (Dennis, M.C.), but determining whether
these are of captive origin, or genuinely wild,
is always going to be difficult. An unofficial
release and introduction of captive bred stock
into Eaton and Gamston Woods near Retford, took
place sometime during the early 1990's and proved
to be very popular with a number of visitors who
travelled to see them. But the number of records dropped rather
sharply after peaking in 1998. There were
apparently no records from either Eaton or Gamston Woods
in 2003 and 2004, so another small peak in records
between 2005 and 2008, might refer to a second release of
captive stock there? There are believed to have been no
further records at either woodland since 2008. |
