The skin benefits of Propolis Extract are abundant.

It is one of the only substances in the world, scientists say, known to contain nearly all of the vitamins and nutrients needed to sustain life.

Unlike honey, Propolis is derived from the sap of coniferous trees, such as pine and hemlock trees, which never lose their leaves.

Bees are able to convert this sap into a sticky resin, which is said to range in color from brown to green.

The bees then use the Propolis like a glue, or concrete, to hold their hive together.

It can also be used to patch up holes or opening created by unfavorable weather, or foreign invaders; such as insects, and even bears.

According to the author Matt Walker, bees can also use Propolis to inhibit the growth of harmful pathogens, such as bacteria and fungus, within the hive and around its structure.

“A number of studies have shown that propolis has a range of antimicrobial properties, but mostly in relation to human health. For example, numerous publications cite its effectiveness against viruses, bacteria and even cancer cells,” he writes.

Propolis is also known to have the following beneficial properties in regards to human health:

  • Antiviral
  • Anti-fungal
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-bacterial

 7 Ways Propolis Benefits Skin

  • Due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, Propolis is said to speed up the wound-healing process.
  • Propolis is also said to be effective in reducing signs of cold sores.
  • Propolis is said to quell minor burns.
  • Propolis may reduce the appearance of wrinkles and smooth out skin, according to the site Bee Pollen Buzz.
  • The site also says the combined properties of Propolis may help keep you blemish free.
  • As a natural sealant, Propolis may also help skin retain more moisture to maintain a healthier, more vibrant complexion.
  • Propolis is gentle on sensitive skin, and can even help reduce redness. *This redness can be related to acne, as Propolis is said to be beneficial for individuals with mild to moderate forms of acne.
