GT by Citroen (BG VG Competition) - Final Candidate Posted

Edit: See Last Post for final Image.

Hi,

Have been working on this model for a two weeks now. It started out slow, but is ramping up really quickly. I am modelling what i think is the coolest car I have ever seen. It was a concept car designed for Gran Turismo 5 by polyphony digital and citroen. Citroen then made a road car version, and made six cars. The cars were each sold at 2 million dollars.

As the car is named after, and designed for the video game, i thought it would be an excellent entry for the competition.

So that is what the car looks like.

Now this is my first car model that i have ever fully attempted and and got father than blocking out the headlights and putting in the background images. So it is going slower than i had originally thought. That being said, i think i am doing a pretty good job. But i know that i can do a lot better. I would love any constructive critisim so that i can help to complete my model and hopefully win the competition.

right now i have just completed the base model and need to apply the sub-surf modifier and start refining the edges and adding some depth. Then i need to add the exterior detail, and then finally texture the car. I hope to have the car completed by end of next week so that i can start working on the background, the rendering, compositing. If i have time, i would like to render the inside of the car so that i can include an armature to make the doors open. But will see how far we get.

Would really value extra eyes to point out areas that need to be corrected. Thanks for the help. Hope you think that the car is cool.

I thought about modeling that car too but couldnt find blueprints on internet :frowning:
How many hours you spend on that? Because two weaks seams a lot

I bought that car, it goes like the clappers!

But it’s not as fast as my Veyron :eyebrowlift:

Spent about 10hrs… I think. Started off being really slow, i was trying to be a perfectionist. Then i realized that i would never get it done at that rate. I modeled more than half the car in about 3hrs… at least to where it is now.

I have worked on it a bit more. I am going more for completeness rather than total accuracy. That being said, i’m always looking for constructive criticism.

Let me know what you think.

It’s hard to tell how well you’re doing with the proportions. In order to judge that you need to render views that are similar to the photos, then people are more likely to be able to help. Differences in proportion then tend to jump out at you and maybe us too. It does look very much as if you have a pretty good idea what you’re doing so far; could we see a wireframe or three please?

Hi Here are some wireframes to match the references above. I changed one of the ref photos to make comparison easier.

Was also working on some of the texturing. Was getting frustrated by the modelling. Wanted a change. Will go back to the detail work soon.

Really cool car  I wouldn’t mind having one of those in my driveway

Great work  Keep it up

Happy Blending

An Update… Doesn’t look like much from the first two angles, but the front is really starting to come along… I am working on the depth, and have found a really great way to break apart the panels and keep the same distance from each other. (yay me!:D)

The Last Image is a closer view of the main angle that will be in the final render.

wooow last one looking great, nice materials

I really like this concept-car. Keep your work up

So i have tried some shaders just to see how the paint shader will look. It is going well. However, i think that there is something that is not quite right with the HDR mapping in the two that include buildings. So i switched to a map that is just sky.

As well in future im going to start working on the physical environment so that i dont run out of time before the competition ends. That way i can pose the shot, and make sure that the environment is right and that the car angle is good. Then i will work on those problems with the visible shot. excluding those things i need to work on which won`t be shown.

Here are the images:

edit: Had to resave the images as jpegs to upload. Created some noise.

1200 Samples (All Render Layers… Was Silly) = 21:2642.93 Render Time

Then Added some post.

C&C Please… Destroy me… Thanks

Here are some of my to do’s:
-Add headlights… I know
-Add Breaks and Rotars
-Fix Glare
-Correct Vector Blur
-Various Tweaks to the Car

If time permits:
-Add Tire Marks to the Road
-Add Smoke Trail for wheels

Question: Should I spend time on the minor details, Glare and Blur or focus on big things like the smoke. (Lights and Breaks will be done no matter what.)

Something is off, either the lighting or the materials… or maybe something else entirely…
Hmm, maybe try to brighten the image up.

Second person to make that comment. Here is the corrected image. The coloring is intentional as it is an effect called cross processing. But i did make it brighter and took away some of the green.

If the car is cornering and maybe drifting(?) the blur on the wheels should be stronger and therefore you wouldn’t need to model the brakes

The reflections are off, are you using a hdri or environment image? Now it looks like plane studio lights.

@Chop Suey: Have included the comments on wheel. As for the lighting, i’m using an HDRI (i think… your question has confused me about the difference). It is an equirectangular image. I think the issue with lighting is two fold… The problem is the car paint shader had a little too much metalic shean to it. thus it reflected alot of diffuse light. then i added the crossprocessing effect, and blew out the highlights. To fix this i have toned down the car paint shader, and turned up the glossy to make it feel more like an actual car.

Currently working on a render right now. Then i will tweak some of the issues that i see in the render. Have created the headlights, the breaks. Focused on the major issues. The smoke will be composited in, and have added tire streaks to the road. Will upload later tonight after the render is complete and I adjust the post posscress.

Hoping for a post to the competition forum tomorrow. That will give me one day of grace.

Most Recent Render, with quick motion blur. Have changed the angle to make it more aggressive Still have to add smoke, mist, control the glare, control the reflections, control the motion blur.

Will be posting final results sooner.
