This Volkswagen Caddy & Rabbit Pickup got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1982 Volkswagen Rabbit pickup was reportedly delivered new to a dealership belonging to the current owner in Maine and used as a demo vehicle before being sold to the first owner in 1984. The truck is said to have been stored for approximately 27 years before the current owner purchased it from the first owner in 2011. It is finished in silver over blue and is powered by a 1.6-liter diesel inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Features include fog lights, wooden bed rails, a drop-in bedliner, a sliding rear window, power steering, and a cassette stereo. This Rabbit pickup is now offered on dealer consignment with a clean Carfax report and an expired Maine registration document in the owner’s name.
The truck is finished in silver and features a sliding rear window, fog lights, rear rock guards, and bed rails. The bed is pictured in the gallery both with and without the black plastic drop-in bedliner installed.
Silver-painted 13″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and older Michelin X Radial tires. The truck rides on independent MacPherson struts up front and leaf springs at the rear. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs up front and drums out back, and the truck is equipped with power steering.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in blue cloth with a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Features consist of a cassette stereo and vent windows.
A two-spoke steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer, a clock with inset auxiliary gauges, and indicator lights. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 12k miles.
The 1.6-liter diesel inline-four was factory rated at 52 horsepower and 71 lb-ft of torque. Service completed when the truck was removed from storage included an oil change and replacement of the fuel pump, fuel filter, and timing belt.
Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or damage and displays history in Maine. The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for a vehicle of its age. It is being sold on its Maine registration.
