The seminar is organised jointly by the Museum of Military Technology “Gryf” from ¯uków, the Scuba Diving Club “Rekin” and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Gdañsk, which hosts the event that day.

For all those who decide to come to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the organizers have prepared a lot of attractions. Of those directly related to the topic, certainly worth mentioning is the presentation of slides from the largest Polish expedition carried out on the Gustloff in 1974 by Jerzy Janczukowicz from KP “Rekin” or the presentation of selected exhibits in the museum’s collection.

An additional attraction will be the appearance of a faithful replica of a Panther tank in front of the Mechanical Department building! According to the organisers, it will make several runs and fire shots using bang ammunition.

Saturday 1 February 2014, 10.00 – 13.00
Auditorium of the PG Mechanical Faculty building
Admission FREE!

MS Wilhelm Gustloff was sunk in 1945 during Operation Hannibal. Operation HannibalThe ship was sunk by the Soviet submarine S-13, which was intended to evacuate citizens of the German Third Reich from the areas of the Soviet offensive. The sinking was carried out by the Soviet submarine S-13, commanded by Captain Alexander Marinesko. As a result of the torpedoing of the German liner, about 7 to 10 thousand people died. It was the greatest maritime tragedy in history (for comparison, about 1500 people died on board the RMS Titanic).

Two films describing these tragic events premiered in 2008: the documentary ‘Gustloff – The Last Voyage’ and the feature film ‘Gustloff – Voyage to Death’.
