Coat

In the winter coat the undercoat predominates with the top coat forming a guard, together forming a profuse coat. In the summer the guard coat predominates.

It does well in a social environment with its family with whom it bonds well, and loves to be part of a pack, just like its ancestors.

Temperament

The Saarloos Wolfhound is a very natural and lively dog that was bred for no specific utilisation. It can display a proud and independent character. However, it is affectionate and faithful to its own family and bonds closely with its master with whom it is very social. It does not like to be left alone. The dog is reserved towards strangers, being of a suspicious nature, preferring to flee from them if there is an undesired approach. They are very obedient; they require consistent and sensitive training. Early and positive socialisation is highly recommended.
