I am in exactly the same predicament:

(from the warranty questions subforum title 9800GX2 Equivalent) I am convinced the 9800GX2 is generally better in terms of performance, and merc.man87's  post has just reinforced that belief with actual benchmark evidence.

@hog

Either that or the GTX280, I think the 280 had somewhere around 12-13% being RMA'D

Lol, now that i would almost have to agree with, it does seem pretty high, i have a newer OEM version that i am using, hope that makes a difference. I have never seen mine get about 60c. I also try to maintain a low ambient temp in my house.

I use to have a 9800GX2 and recently upgraded to a 285 and the 285 VASTLY outperforms the GX2 at least as far as I can tell, if the charts say different well they say different, but from my personal experience the 285 is much better. Now obviously we're not talking between a 285 and GX2, but I would say go for the 260. I think you'll be much happier with that then with a GX2. I know I'm much happier with a single GPU card.

When is the last time you had a 9800gx2?

What drivers were you running? Every link on the internet that has a review of the 9800gx2 it does really good. Sure the mnimums are always lower with multi gpu configurations, but your max's and avg's are top notch.

Hey Galaxy is going to start selling the new 9800gx2.But if it goes the same way as the new single slot 260 razer, you will never see one in a store.   http://en.expreview.com/2010/03/10/galaxy-dual-core-gts250-retail-version/6851.html#more-6851

What games are there that knee your GTX 260 that much or are you just joking?

Also from 5 to 10 FPS is an increase of 100%, so that is an upgrade.

What good does it do to you if you always have a spike because of the minimum in the FPS?

Yeah it was a joke, but with a basis. My GTX 260 216 does beat my 9800GX2 in crysis when AA and AF are up high, with settings on high. I cant be bothered to check again but it was like 14 fps vs 10fps. Still pretty bad and unplayable in my opinion as theres no action or explosions yet. I want my old 9800GX2 back so I can play no AA and AF at 32fps.

It the avg fps, that means, you are going to avg good fps if it is up there. We all run into minimums. Anyways, i did some test with the 9800gx2 and found that with crysis maxed, i can run it at 28fps avg with stock gpu clocks. If i overclocked, i might be able to gain some more on this beast. That is with no custom configs or cheats. I am just saying, from personal experience, no micro stuttering, and good performance, and it's not just me saying this, every review site on the web will show this.

I've had the 9800 gx2 and still have my 260's. The stuttering on the 9800 gx2 was unbearable to me.

Specs:
i7 930 @ 3.6
Patriot Inferno 60gb SSD
Spinpoint F3 1tb HDD
ASUS SaberTooth X58
EVGA GTX GeForce 760 SC 4gb
ANTEC 750 WATT PSU
KINGSTON HYPER-X 1600mhz 3x4 gb

My bro has a gtx 260 in his computer, most games max out his GPU. Its a really good card for the price.

Crysis @ high 1920x1080 = 25-35fps
Bad Company 2@ max settings incl 16x AA and AF 1920x1080 = 30-45fps

Good card imo

So he was running crysis on high settings? (Not very high?) Because i on high i can run it with a min of 30fps, and averages mid 40's and a max of upper 60's.

after that i get 2x Evga 460 SSC sli  .. now i have evga 9800gx2

I am using it with corsair hx1000   .. playing all latest game .. its awesome card .. i play games at 1280x960
my cpu is q9550 with OCZ platinum edition rams ..
  my rating is ..
1# Evga gtx 460 ssc /ee
2# 9800gx2

Only go for 9800gx2 if you have powerful power supply and you want to run game on higher resolution
