The Antec Nine Hundred - Ultimate Gamer Case

Post by Apoptosis »

The Antec Nine Hundred is one very hardcore black gaming case that is well worth the look. This case is designed to be used with high end gaming hardware that produces a lot of heat, as the case has been built for maximum cooling. With a perforated front bezel, three 120mm fans and a top-mounted 200mm fan this case is unlike anything that has been available on the market in recent years. If you are trying to find a case with good airflow and cooling read on!

Does that cutout at the top of the case hold a brew?

It best do

And as for mess; turn the PSU upside down, use cable ties for the normal cables and route the 12v cable through the underside of the mobo tray (with cutting if needed) and you have yourself a tidy case.

Seems to be a trend with Antec for lack of hidey places for wires.

Blue glowing PC's are the best (I'm not bias or anything (see rig log in sig)!)

Why don't case manufacturers who make windowed cases bother to anodize the inside. If I'm paying $150 for a case it better look good the whole way around.

To be honest I have this Super Flower case I bought of Directron 3 years ago and it's one of the best I've ever seen. Clean, sleek, and anodized inside and out. Best part was cost. $75 for an all aluminum case.

Mine has windows on the top and sides however. I do not know if this is offered anymore.

Over at the Quakecon forums, they have thread right now where they're debating which is better: the Antec 900 or the Lian Li PC-V1200Bplus II.

I personally prefer the Antec. I'm gunna go to Frys over the weekend, and if they have it for close to the Outpost price, I'd be tempted to pick it up.

I have this case and with my Cooler Master Praetorian I was lucky to run my E6600 @ 3.3 without my temps approaching 60C. Since I got this case with the same hardware I am running @ 3.5 with my temps around 48C.

Definitely well worth it.

Interesting comparison. I just sold my V1200B Plus a few weeks ago after 2 years with it, it was a beautiful case, very high quality, aluminum, etc... everything you expect from Lian Li. One thing I hated about the Lian Li was the finish on the edges of the case doors, I can't tell you how many times I scraped a leg or arm across them and was ready to get out the belt sander. I also had a lot of problems with the door latch slides rattling with just about every 120mm heatsink I used. There is no reset button on the case which is annoying when you're playing with overclocks. The size of the case makes it difficult to transport and set up in confined areas.
Filling all of the hard drive bays meant that the 3 drives on the rack closest to the the PSU got hot, the front three weren't exactly cool either.

While the Nine Hundred isn't aluminum it is without a doubt a better cooling case than the Lian Li, no contest at all. It's also smaller in all dimensions which is important for a LAN rig.

Is the 900 better? That comes down to where your priorities are and is subjective in some regards.
Looks? Lian Li in my opinion
Material? Lian Li
Cooling? Antec
Size? Antec
Hard drive install? Toss Up, I always had problems with cable length in the LL.
Ease of installation/room to work? Lian Li

I sold the V1200B Plus to make room for the Nine Hundred and couldn't be happier. :drinkers:

If you don't feel like filling it with the guts of your computer, you can simply use this puppy as an air conditioning unit in any room of the house.....

I have the Nine Hundred as well. E6600 oc'd to 3.4 with a Tuniq Tower on about medium or a shade below, all fans set to medium except the top set to high, and the 6600 idles at 1-2 deg C above ambient.

20.2 deg C in my room right now, running the Linux SMP and it's kicking along at 39-40 deg C. As it says in the review, you love em or hate em, the LED fans. First thing I did was look for a way to kill the lights, but left it alone and now I love them. My case actually has a 120mm LED fan on the rear chassis also... instead of non-LED like the review.

Nice review.

Antec should really have added some more toolless designs into the case, seeing as cheaper cases already have it.

Does the hard drive cage have anything in it that would reduce noise vibration, like rubber or something?

Did adding a fan on the side panel add any additionnal cooling benefits?

Does the case have noise/vibration reducing feet?

The hard drive cages have 4 thumb screws on each side of each cage, so they snug to the frame pretty well. I usually give them a slight twist with the screwdriver to eliminate vibration.

I haven't added a side fan to mine yet... though I did get a pair in the mail a couple days ago. The side fan will sit directly on top of my 8800GTX and will hopefully knock it down a couple of degrees. I'll try to report back on on that in the next couple of days.

Finally, Antec DOES put rubber feet on the case, which seem to reduce noise pretty well. Even with everything going on inside this case, the only noise I hear is the fan noise, and in my opinion for a gaming machine, the noise is at a completely acceptable level.

Nice, thanks for the info DaIceMan. The case seems pretty cool now that you've answered my q's. Looking forward to some numbers on the side panel fan :)
