Smallville’s Supergirl takes center stage, leading the latest film from the ‘Saw’ franchise — ‘Jigsaw’

How did you land your role in ‘Jigsaw’? If you auditioned, what was the scene? A meeting was set up to meet with the directors (Michael and Peter Spierig) while i was in Toronto. I was already a fan of their work. Their films are smart and beautifully shot/ directed. We chatted about Jigsaw and my love of psychological thrillers. We hit it off.

Did empathy play a big part in your performance in ‘Jigsaw’? How do you draw the emotions out? My character (without giving too much away) was hard to relate to in many ways. Her reasoning for her actions. Audiences will understand why when they meet her and hear her backstory. However, you can always find pieces within the character to relate to. Their humanity. Trying to understand the characters motivations, insecurities, their history. You latch onto those and let that drive your performance. Thinking about things within my personal life that can/could draw out similar emotions and reactions truly helped.

Laura in ‘Jigsaw’

Are you a fan of horror? Had you seen the previous films in the franchise before this? I am a huge fan of the horror genre and psychological thrillers. Hitchcock has always been a huge influence for me. other films like The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby, The Shining, Poltergeist, Get Out. I had seen the first few Saw films when they were released. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of a film playing off of a universal theme/truth…human nature.

Were there any scenes that you were anxious to shoot? I was slightly anxious to shoot a scene in the silo. I tend to be a bit claustrophobic and that particular scene was definitely making my heart jump.
