Maruti rules the affordable 7-seater market with the Ertiga and XL6. It is trying to penetrate into the premium segment with Invicto. But Maruti doesn’t have any product in this gap between Ertiga and Invicto. To counter this, Maruti is working on a new car that will be essentially a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater.

Details

According to media reports, Maruti has started working on a new three-row SUV most likely to be based on the Grand Vitara. Internally, the car has been codenamed Y17. Maruti Suzuki plans to manufacture the new SUV at the brand’s new plant in Kharkoda, Haryana. The new plant is under construction and is expected to be operational by 2025. The Y17 will be the first car to be assembled at this new plant. So will we have a Toyota version too? There is uncertainty over this and we will have to wait.

Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater – What to expect?

The Y17 will be based on the Global C-platform like the 5-seater version. However, it is expected to get a longer wheelbase to accommodate the extra row. Design-wise, Maruti is expected to give it a slightly different styling to differentiate similar to what Hyundai does between the Creta and Alcazar. Feature-wise, we can expect it to be feature loaded with some additions like ADAS expected.

Specs-wise, Maruti could continue with the current setup. So a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated pure petrol and strong hybrid petrol. However, Maruti will need to tweak the hybrid setup as currently, it encroaches space in the boot. With the third row, Maruti will need to find a new place for this equipment.

As stated above, the Grand Vitara 7-seater is still a few years away from seeing the light of day. Before this 7-seater SUV, Maruti is expected to launch the new-gen Swift & Dzire and also the eVX. What about the pricing? Currently, the price of the Grand Vitara goes up to Rs 23 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). So we can expect a hike of around 1.5 lakhs to 2 lakhs. Keeping this in mind, the Grand Vitara 7-seater can go up to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
