Office 2010 x64 on XP x64- revealed

Post by ovctvct »

I've managed to successfully get office 2010 x64 installed on XP x64, by following this guide:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Fo ... oyprevious
Note: if you have office 2010 in .exe form, do NOT use 7zip, winrar, winzip, etc to extract it. Instead, use the /extract cmd switch on the office .exe file.

Also, make sure you download MSXML SP1 and SP2 in the AMD64 variant.
And some correction:
- Major Version: 6
- Minor Version: 1
- Build Number: 9999
- Service Pack Major: 1
You can set your build number to 7600 instead, and leave service pack major to 0.

After applying this version trick, you can run setup.exe and it will install normally. TBH I dunno why MS does not "support" it on XP x64 officially, and this works for server 2003 too. As a side note, you can use this trick for the 32 bit office 2010 too.

Nice, I wish this was possible with more applications. I miss XP. :(

It's a little nudge to force people wanting to use newer versions of office to spending money on a windows upgrade to go with it :)

Just out of a curiosity, does it update normally once installed? Service packs etc.

It was fine until recently, when update's from May or June 2019 totally broke all Office 2010 x64 applications on Windows XP x64. I don't know how about x86 versions on XP x64.

It broke x86 on x86 as well. To fix it, uninstall all KB442#### updates. One of them was causing problems; I got through half of them and Office started working again. I'll see if I can narrow down which it was specifically. I know that a botched update last November had a KB442#### number. Said update was withdrawn, and I couldn't find it installed on my XP box. So that's why I started attacking the 442 updates.

EDIT: The following updates break compatibility of Office 2010 on XP:
KB4462157
KB4462174
KB4462223
KB4461614

There may be others, these are just the ones that I've confirmed to be problematic.

Can I please have a budget?

I was dealing with this, the problematic updates are those related to Office Japanse calendar updates (and it even connects to error message regarding EnumCalendarInfoExEx function):
  • KB4461579
  • KB4461625
  • KB4461626
  • KB4462172
  • KB4462177
  • KB4462186
  • KB4462187
  • KB4462223 - this is a security update, but it contains file versions with Japanese Calendar update.
For now I have only the 4461579, 4462172, 4461626, 4462223 updates hidden in Windows Update. I'm not sure if I uninstalled all of those from the above list - will check this some other time.
