EXPIRED - FOR SALE: Gemme Audio Katana Itokawa V3

Gemme Audio is a Canadian company based in Montreal, in fact Gemme Audio is now Arteluthe. The designer is Robert Gaboury.

This Itokawa model is based on the Katana Model but significantly larger than the original Katana. This V3 iteration is the most achieved of the lineup. So not to be confused with the smaller models, having heard both, it is a completely other level.

The speaker uses external crossovers, in this case crossovers have been replaced by the original owner (I still have the original crossover). I can't say anything about the improvement over the original as the new crossovers used the original furutech binding posts of the original crossover. But from comments from the original owner the improvement was significant. This modification is said to be worth a few thousand dollars.

I know it will sound cliché but they really do punch above their weight.

It is a two way design using 6.5'' Accuton drivers, we usually see Accutons in much more expensive speakers than that. It also uses a 1'' Scan-Speak Revelator tweeters. The architecture uses the Gemme Audio Flex technology, which is a folded horn/transmission line build with tunable rear port.

The piano black finish is superb and no sign of marks or scratch, I rated this as a 9/10 just because of age if not of that reason it would be a 10.

The bass is very impressive, the details and imaging are also extremely good, I would say that the voices are the most impressive here. Some sources I found rate it at 94db/w@1meter some others rate it at 97db/m@1meter, I don't know which is the right rating. What I can say is that it does sing fabulous with a 5w tube amp. My main amp is however a 100W solid state amp. The bass extension is 26 or 28Hz, again sources say different things. I think the discrepancy might be due to V2 to V3 versions differences. But at these values, needless to say that the bass is very present and controlled.

Another very nice touch is that the boxes are actually flight cases, which is a very nice touch and really speak towards the high end nature of the speakers.
