CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum has a new Instagram-able setting for families. A replica of “Doc Hudson” from Disney’s 2006 animated movie “Cars” and the Cars video game, is on display. On loan from the Hudson Essex Terraplane Historical Society in Indianapolis this traveling exhibit, like the movie, honors vintage automobiles and automotive racing history.
The now-blue Doc Hudson model on display started as a rust-free, brown and green 1951 Pacemaker sedan with 59,000 miles. Its grill was missing, and the front end had been wrecked. Dash components were gone, hanging wires were visible and the interior was limited to a front and back seat.
The car was restored by shop students at Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Ind. It will be at the museum for photos and admiration through Spring.
Doc Hudson appears only in the first of the three animated “Cars” movie and is voiced by Shaker Heights native and movie legend Paul Newman. “Cars 3,” 2017, pays tribute to the late Doc Hudson.
