Smallville star Laura Vandervoort is engaged to beau Adam Coates as she reveals he popped the question during her birthday festivities: 'There is no one I'd rather do life with'
Laura Vandervoort announced she is engaged to Adam Coates on Wednesday.
The 39-year-old actress took to Instagram to share the exciting news as she posted a series of photos of her now-fiancé proposing to her.
When Coates popped the question, the couple appeared to be watching the sunset from a downtown rooftop.
After she said yes and he put the ring on her finger, she leaped into his arms in excitement.
In a lengthy caption, the Smallville star — who was previously set to marry Oliver Trevena in 2014 but called off their engagement after one year — gushed about how they got engaged while celebrating her birthday last week.

'Well... we have some news,' she began. 'My birthday last week became more than a celebration of another trip around the sun... It became a celebration of our forever!
'There is no one I'd rather do life with,' she continued. 'I love you @adamcoates4. Thank you for choosing me for keeps.'
She then recalled how he surprised her by gathering her friends and family at their home to celebrate with them after she said yes.
'What an incredible day and after we were met with 30 friends and family back at home,' she continued.
'I don't know how you got it all by me but it was perfect,' she added.
In parenthesis, she expressed shock at how she was genuinely surprised and wrote: 'Seriously, how did you plan it all without me even noticing!?'
Vandervoort went on to thank her loved ones for keeping the secret and celebrating with them.
'Thank you friends and family who somehow kept it under wraps and made for such a beautiful homecoming [sic],' she gushed.

'I was definitely overwhelmed by the amount of love thrown at us,' she said. 'Balloons, candles, food, cake, flowers and lots of hugs.'
In other photos she shared as part of the announcement, the happy couple could be seen sharing a moment of laughter and then sitting down to bask in the moment.
Vandervoort also shared a photo of the couple sharing a sweet kiss in their lavish kitchen as their loved ones surrounded them and held up glasses of champagne in celebration.
