Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara review, long term - Third report

If you look at the dimensions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, it’s at par with segment leaders. It measures 4,345mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,645mm tall, sitting on a 2,600mm wheelbase. But space within the cabin doesn’t match up with those very rivals.

As our road test revealed, the feeling of space and actual space belies the SUV’s dimensions. While the front half of the cabin still fares well, the rear half feels narrow and headroom is just about adequate. It’s fine for me and my colleagues, most of whom are under 6ft in height, but I doubt anyone taller would be too comfortable sitting here. The boot space too is nothing to write home about. At 373 litres, it’s well below what the best-sellers in the segment offer. This variant fares better than the strong hybrid version of the Grand Vitara though, which has just 265 litres of boot space.

Where it does redeem itself to an extent, however, is legroom and knee room which is quite good. Again, as evidenced by the picture above. The large panoramic sunroof helps enhance the feeling of space to an extent. Although, that’s one of the reasons for the limited headroom, I suspect. Both the front seats and the rear bench are comfortable, even over longer distances. Long story short, if you’re a family of average-sized individuals, 5ft 10in or under, then the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara won’t give you much of a reason to complain, but taller or larger individuals won’t be too happy in the back.
