Mon Roadbook, your digital travel guide

Embark on a self-guided hiking tour using a digital travel guide on your smartphone to show you the way. This is what Mon Roadbook offers. Heidi Carron, a certified mountain leader in charge of the e-roadbook project for Mont Blanc Experience and Allibert Trekking, talks about this innovative application.

What is Mon Roadbook?

We started with a simple observation that in today’s connected world, where people carry their mobile phones everywhere, use and reliance on apps has significantly increased with travelers of all stripes. When hiking, centralizing all the information you need in one device is a real plus. This is one of the great services we offer our clients during their trips. Ergonomic and really easy to use, Mon Roadbook works offline.

What main functionalities does Mon Roadbook provide?

First and foremost, the app provides all the information clients need for their trip: travel documents, the itinerary – the app guides you to your starting point, during the hike, and all the way to your accommodations – GPS tracks, location information (geo-tagged photos and audio notes), and different points of interest along the hike. We have received really positive feedback from clients who have used the app during their trip.

During your trip

START A STAGE

On the trails, the navigation is only offline. However, to join the point of departure by car will be done online, using your mobile data. Please verify your phone plan terms of use on your trip destination and get informed about the rates.

• Open the application on your smartphone, then select a route in the “My stages” menu

• Use route guidance to reach the starting point if you are traveling by vehicle (3G or 4G required).

• Start the route: the navigation is triggered when you arrive at the start of the track. POIs* are triggered automatically on your way. To open them manually, click on the POI* on the background map or open the list by clicking on the icon at the bottom on the left of the screen.

GPS accuracy: smartphone GPS chips offer an accuracy of 5 to 10 meters for the best of them, this data is variable depending on the model. In addition, depending on the quality of the satellite coverage of the geographical area and the nature of the terrain, the devices may lose precision. In very rugged sectors (steep valleys, gorges and cliffs), the trail exit alert may be triggered unnecessarily or POIs* may not be triggered correctly. In this case, common sense always prevails: do not put yourself in danger, stay on the trails and use your printed roadbook.
