Edward Cullen was almost denied the opportunity to sip more blood.
Robert Pattinson, 31, told the New York Times that he was nearly fired from the set of the first “Twilight” movie, released in 2008. It was the beginning of the franchise that would catapult the young Pattinson to fame.
Pattinson, also star of the Cannes hit “Good Time,” reportedly stirred up some trouble on the “Twilight” set — to the point where his agents had to come intervene.
“I didn’t want to kiss anybody’s [butt] the entire time,” Pattinson said. “I don’t think I did, anyway.”
The famed actor also told Yahoo! Movies in 2012 that his method acting approach landed him in some hot water on the set. He was reportedly fighting with various people to the point of almost getting “fired.”
Nevertheless, Pattinson called his time in the “Twilight” franchise an “amazing luxury,” according to The Times. He also said that “amazing luck” brought the talented cast together.
“I think one of the best things, basically, about being a bit of a sellout, is if you’ve done five movies in a series, you’ve had to accept some responsibility for playing the same character,” Pattinson told The Times.
Outside of the romantic fantasy franchise, Pattinson praised his 2012 film “Cosmopolis,” which was the first movie he made following the wrap of “Twilight.” The actor called the work “quite complex.”
“It was a big turning point for me,” Pattinson told The Times. “I just realized that was what I wanted to do.”
He said that he was drawn to director David Cronenberg’s work because of his unique style and ability to “break a pattern.”
On his finished products, Pattinson said he doesn’t enjoy watching his own films — because he’s his own worst critic.
“I’ve never seen anyone give themselves such a hard time. I’m beating myself up afterward,” he said.
