THE GREAT PICTURE HALL AT PETERHOF Palace of Peter the Great, Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 1764 using Vallin de La Mothe's design, the pictures and the wall-papers of Peter's collection were replaced by Catherine II. The then fashionable portrait sketches made by Pietro Rotari (1707-62). The collection of those portraits was bought by Catherine II right after the artist's death.
