Crysis Remastered trilogy launching this fall for PC and consoles

Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 join last year’s uneven remastering of the 2007 original

Crysis Remastered wasn’t so hot when it launched on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in September, but Crytek is going ahead with remasters of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3, anyway, and bundling all three together in a Crysis Remastered trilogy launching sometime this fall on consoles and PC.

Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3 Remastered will also launch individually, for those who already have the first remaster. The games and the bundle will launch on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, “with the game playing even smoother on next gen PS5 and Xbox Series X/S,” Crytek said in a statement.

Crysis Remastered was announced in April 2020 and originally scheduled to launch the following July. But leaked screenshots before that showed a visually underwhelming game, so it was sent back to the drawing board for a Sept. 18, 2020 launch. Meantime, Crysis Remastered did launch for Nintendo Switch on July 23, 2020.

We called Crysis Remastered “Broken on Xbox One X, OK on PC,” finding severe problems with the ray-tracing performance on the console. Our review for Xbox One X also found “wildly fluctuating frame rates, and visual fidelity that looked half a step behind most modern games in the same genre.”

Crytek’s statement on Tuesday said the Crysis Remastered Trilogy will be “optimized in partnership with Saber Interactive,” which likewise handled the CryEngine 5 remastering of the first game. Saber Interactive also assisted 343 Industries with the development of 2011’s Halo: Combat Evolved remaster and 2014’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and ported The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition to Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The first Crysis launched on PC in 2007, and for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Crysis 2 also launched in 2011 for all three platforms, as did Crysis 3 in 2013. Electronic Arts was the original publisher for all three games.
