Suzuki’s all-new Grand Vitara finally made its Southeast Asian debut in Indonesia, some seven months after its global debut in India in July 2022. While there’s still no official word regarding the new sports utility vehicle’s local availability, it could be a potential successor to the Euro-sourced Vitara which was dropped from the local lineup in mid-2022. For this comparison, we’ll be pitting the all-new Grand Vitara against the older Philippine-spec Vitara. We’ll take a closer look and see how different or similar these two subcompact Suzuki SUVs are.

The all-new Grand Vitara measures 4,345mm long, 1,795mm wide, and 1,645mm tall, making it 170mm longer, 20mm wider, and 35mm taller than the Vitara. The new Suzuki SUV rides on a 2,600mm wheelbase, this makes it 100mm greater than its sibling. The latest Grand Vitara has in impressive 210mm ground clearance, this is 25mm more than the Vitara. Aside from being larger in practically all directions than its European sibling, Suzuki gave its new SUV larger tires. The profile of the two subcompact SUVs are nearly identical, this is not surprising since both are built on Suzuki’s FWD-based TECT platform. A chunk of the Grand Vitara’s added length appears to have gone to the rear passenger area, this is made obvious by the longer rear doors. Although Suzuki kept some Vitara-ness in the design of its new SUV, its curvier and bolder styling emphasizes its bigger dimensions.

As a refresher, the latest Grand Vitara is made in India where it’s available as an FWD 1.5 mild-hybrid, an AWD 1.5 mild-hybrid, and an FWD hybrid. In Indonesia, the new Grand Vitara is only offered as an FWD 1.5 mild-hybrid. The local-spec Vitara was imported CBU from Hungary, it was initially offered here with FWD 1.6 variants, but the newer facelifted model was only available in 1.6-liter AWD form. The updated Vitara was dropped from the local lineup a year after its introduction.
