How To Get To Glen Etive
Here are the Glen Etive directions. To get to Glen Etive, you'll need to head to the Scottish Highlands. If you're coming from Glasgow, the easiest way to reach Glen Etive is by car. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours and the route is well signposted.
From Glasgow, take the A82 towards Fort William. Once you reach the village of Tyndrum, turn right onto the A82 towards Glencoe. Continue on this road for approximately 20 miles, then turn left after you have crossed River Etive Bridge. Follow this road for around 2.7 miles until you reach Glen Etive. If you drive the full length of the road to Loch Etive it's around 12 miles.
If you do not have access to a car, there are also bus and train options. The nearest train station is in Bridge of Orchy, approximately 10 miles from Glen Etive. From there, you can take a taxi or bus to the glen.
Alternatively, there are bus services that operate from Glasgow to Fort William, with stops in various towns and villages along the way. From Fort William, you can then take a taxi or bus to Glen Etive.
How Do I Get to Glen Etive Waterfall?
Glen Etive is home to a number of beautiful waterfalls. If you drive the road to Loch Etive you will see all the waterfalls along River Etive that leads to Loch Etive. To find the waterfalls at Glen Etive, head North along the A82 towards Glen Coe from Bridge of Orchy. After driving for about a mile past the Glen Coe ski resort, keep an eye out for a sign directing you towards Glen Etive on your left.
Take this turning and continue down the road for approximately 1000 metres. Just before a small bridge, you will see a small parking area. In case it's full, another parking area is available just after the bridge. You will immediately notice the mountain opposite the parking area. Cross the narrow stream and follow the sound of the waterfall, which is located just 100 yards from the car park. This is where you can take in the Buachaille Etive Mòr Waterfalls.
For more waterfalls and the Glen Etive Pools, keep driving down this road and keep looking left. There are many points where you can take in more waterfalls in Glen Etive. They are all breathtaking.
What is Glen Etive?
Glen Etive is a beautiful valley in the Scottish Highlands, located about 12 miles southeast of the town of Fort William. The glen stretches for around 12 miles and is surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in Scotland. River Etive flows through the glen, it’s so peaceful there and with all the wildlife, including otters, salmon, deer, and eagles. Just to name a few.
Parking at Glen Etive
Glen Etive Estate parking can be a bit challenging, especially during the peak season. There are a few options for parking. The most convenient and popular parking spot is located near Glen Etive House, which is at the beginning of the road that leads into Glen Etive. It's a spacious car park that can accommodate several cars. From there, you can easily access the main attractions, such as the waterfall and the scenic drive.
Alternatively, there are a few layby spots (not passing places) along the road that you can use if the car park is full. Be mindful of other road users and don't park inconsiderately or block any access routes.
You can also drive to the end of the road to Loch Etive and park there. When looking for Glen Etive parking, there are a few options available just be aware of the time of year as it could be busier than you think.
Overnight Parking At Glen Etive
There's a few spots along the road where you can park overnight. Please don't park in passing places as these are crucial to keep traffic moving along this tight road. Remember leave no trace and we can all enjoy this together.
Wild Camping in Glen Etive
Glen Etive wild camping really can give you an experience you're likely not to get anywhere else. Glen Etive offers a unique wild camping experience with stunning views and landscapes. The Etive Mor, at the beginning of the Glen Etive road, is a popular spot for wild camping. There are also other camping areas throughout the glen, but visitors should be aware that fires are not permitted and littering is strictly prohibited.
The closest campsite to Glen Etive is the Red Squirrel Campsite, which we have stayed at. You really feel like you're in a magical place surrounded by mountains.
Glen Etive Wild Swimming?
A lot of people have asked if can you wild swim at Glen Etive. We have seen lots of people swimming in the different pools at Glen Etive. Always a little too chilly for us, but we've said the next time we go we've got to take the plunge. Picking the right day is crucial. If there's been a lot of rain then the waterfalls will be raging and this may not be the best time to attempt your wild swim as the Glen Etive pools could be a little more fierce than you expect. We've even seen kayakers racing down some of these. So it gives you a good idea of what you're playing with here.
There are some rocky river banks where you can access the water and enjoy your Glen Etive wild swim. Please be aware of your safety and make sure you access the water carefully and safely. The water can be very cold, pretty much all year round, so keep safety in mind if you try cold water swimming here.
Also if you wanted to wait for warmer months in summer, you may have to contend with the Midges.
Are There Toilets At Glen Etive
There are no toilets at Glen Etive. There nearest will be the Glencoe Mountain Resort.
What is at the End of Glen Etive?
At the end of Glen Etive is Loch Etive, a beautiful freshwater loch that's over 20 miles long. The loch’s surrounded by stunning mountains and it has so much wildlife, including otters, seals, and dolphins.
Glen Etive Walks
There are plenty of walks to take in at Glen Etive. The best way we find walks is by using apps like AllTrails. You can get a free version and it will show you all the footpaths you can take in Glen Etive. Some even head up mountains. They have marked tails on the app so you don't even have to plan. Just make sure you have the right footwear and check the weather report before heading out on you Glen Etive walk.
Can You Walk Around Loch Etive?
Yes, you can walk around Loch Etive, and it's a great way to explore the stunning scenery of the glen. There’s several hiking trails in the area that offer incredible views of the loch and surrounding mountains.
Glen Etive via Lairig Gartain Walk
The Glen Etive via Lairig Gartain walk is a stunning route that takes you through some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Scottish Highlands. The walk starts at the parking area near the entrance to Lairig Gartain, which is situated on the A82 road between Tyndrum and the Bridge of Orchy.
The route follows a well-defined path that takes you through the Lairig Gartain Pass, which is surrounded by steep hillsides and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The path then continues through open moorland, crossing several small streams and passing through some beautiful woodland areas.
As you approach Glen Etive, the views open up to reveal the stunning valley below, with its tranquil lochs and soaring mountains. The route then descends towards the Glen Etive road, where you can continue on to explore the surrounding area, or retrace your steps back to Lairig Gartain.
The walk's 10 miles long and can take 5-6 hours to complete. It's a challenging route, with some steep parts, but the scenery makes it well worth the effort.

Today was Trists birthday 🎉 and we spent it watching the surf (hoping for waves) eating yummy food, drinking all the drinks and having a massive fire at sunset 🫶🏽 📍Cornwall is just stunning. Day 306 - Blue sky mornings - Living Full-time in our campervan Old Gertie 🚐 Is there anything better then a blue sky morning 🙌🏽💙? This morning we walked along to Sandymouth bay...a beach where we spotted the salt path being filmed last year can you believe. There's a little waterfall on the beach and a cafe just up from it. A great little spot to watch the morning surfers. I want to say the rest of the day was spent exploring and adventurising around Cornwall...nope, it was a washing and work day. We did keep an eye on the surf but nothing really materialised. We did however get blessed with the most stunning of sunsets that little up the Cornish sky. 📽️ Day 305 - (We got rained in 🚐) - Full-time vanlife in the UK ☺️ Today we got rained in. Which given the last couple of days lovely weather 🌤️we can accept the balance 🙌🏽I mean we've caught a tan and been surfing already and it's only April! Our first Winter living in a van was a challenge and a reward. In equal measure. We got to experience the best of the season and we had to live through the worst of it. I know on Instagram this looks like an easy way of living but it still has it's positive and negative points, that's just the balance of life. This week has been a busy one. We've managed to upholster the sofa/bed with new foam and it's made such a difference. We wallpapered the bathroom and replaced our plastic shelves with hanging baskets which has made such a difference. We've been working our little socks off on some work projects. Oh and we've been chasing the blue sky...I say chasing, we haven't actually moved for a week...I should say hoping ☺️ At at the end of the week our prayers were answered, yesterday was such a glorious day I even got sun burned. Not a brag, I should no better....but still 🤗 Next week we have lots of van jobs, she has her MOT and is also having an entire exhaust manifold replaced. Then the plan is Cornwall and surfing 🌊 After being in the New Forest for almost 6 weeks we are looking forward to hitting the coast. A lot of people ask us why we haven't gone to Europe yet...good question. We do have the animals to consider, Frank is nervous of vets so vaccinations and checks are a concern. However that's not what's stopping us. It could be the apprehension of travelling further in an older vehicle however our AA membership has proven faultless so we feel pretty confident in their EU cover. In all honesty I think we just haven't felt the need to as yet. Which I know may sound strange to many. Most vanlifers we have come across can't seem to wait to get out of the UK. Don't get me wrong, we made plans to go but they never materialised and neither of us pushed it. We feel there is just so much to still see here in the UK. Sure the weather isn't up to much but checking out some European content it doesn't look like youre guaranteed to get lucky over there either. So for now we are happy to continue exploring our own back garden. Well for the Spring and Summer at least...maybe Europe will come knocking again with Autumn. I thought that moving into a van, we would be chasing all the WOW moments. The breath taking views. The epic adventures. You know, the highs of what a life of adventure can give you. Is this the best campsite in England? @campinginnewforest have 10 sites across the New Forest, all of which are positioned smack bang in the middle of nature. You share each campsite with the local wildlife that roam the moorland. We have seen Horses, Shetland ponies, donkeys, deer, cattle and we are both almost 100% sure we spotted a wild pig not caught from the pannage season!! It's truly a wildlife dream. We brought garden chairs...half the cost and twice the comfort. Heres why and how 👇🏽 I've been on the lookout for the perfect camping chair to upgrade from our little pop together chairs (which are great if you are holidaying but when you live in a van it's nice to have something a little more comfortable) however the price of camping chairs just seems to be way over inflated. I'm sorry but £80/£90 for a camping chair seems insane to me. So instead I started looking for garden chairs and the price drops considerably. Now don't get me wrong, these don't fold down super small but neither do the overpriced bucket chairs I was looking at. So long story short, we abandoned the idea of camping chairs and saved ourselves money whilst getting a chair which in my opinion is ridiculously comfortable. A win win I reckon. They are also 10% off in Argos, you can use your nectar points against purchase and if you sign up for their newsletter you get an extra £5 off! I do love a deal 🙌🏽 .... Wild camping at a low cost...is this the answer to vanlife in England? We are seeing more and more vanlife wild camp spots being closed to overnight parking which can be incredibly frustrating for more than one reason. (Something we chat about in this Sunday's upcoming YouTube episode) Especially when the alternative to stay in the same area is an overpriced campsite...which I would classify as anything over £30. So what a novelty and a wonderful idea to find not one but a whole host of low cost campsites in the New Forest. All run by the same company they have varying facilities with reflected costs. Some have nothing but a waste point and water, the price then reflects that. You pay between £13 and £18 to park in the wild. Which given that most vanlifers always spend in the local area is very cost effective. It's even allowed us to put up our awning and have some shelter from the rain which is a bonus. Out of interest for those who majority wild park would you consider a low cost campsite instead? Almost 9 months of full-time vanlife and over half of that has been in the winter...we are ready for Spring! Who's with me?! Now don't get me wrong, I (Kez) love winter. I love the snuggly, cosy, candlelit side of winter. What I don't enjoy is the dark, short days. Oh and the rain. Trist however hates winter. He is a full on Summer baby and this year his anticipation of warmer days have rubbed off on me. That and the fact I'm very much over having a wet and muddy van (thanks Frank😂). Being able to sit outside without a coat on is such a novelty we are embracing every moment we can. Coffee just hits that little bit differently when you drink it outside, like a caffeine/nature shot in one hit ☺️ We moved into the van at the end of June 23 so this will be our first spring as full-time vanlifers and I feel it's going to be the best season yet. That has to be one of our favourite things about Vanlife, everyday can bring a new back garden. We struck gold with this spot 🙌🏽 There used to be up to 10,000 deer roaming the New Forest back in the 17th century when the whole area was a royal hunting park. Since then the numbers have been kept lower with approximately 2000 deer in the New Forest. We have lost count of how many we have seen since being here. They are just such majestic animals, being so close to them always feels like a privilege. That's the best part of camping in the new forest, you get to share your pitch with so many different animals. Hugging the tallest and oldest tree in the New Forest, it had to be done ☺️ The tall trees trail off Rhinefield road is home to a pair of ancient redwood trees, planted in 1860 they have stood unscathed, protected by the forest around them. Even though other trees all around had clearly succumbed to high winds and lightning...these two beauties have been spared. Knowing this made them feel all that more awe inspiring. Imagine all the stories these trees could tell (don't worry I'm not crazy, I know trees can't talk) the history they have witnessed. Humbling. Tree hugging is a new practice of ours (bless Trist, I'm so lucky he goes along with my ideas) I have read soooo many benefits of forest bathing we would be mad to not soak up these beautiful giants. And we thought the prettiest roads to drive were in Scotland...that was until we drove the Ornamental Drive in the New Forest. Lined with ancient, giant trees. Filled with wildlife. Enriched in history. This stretch of road will blow you away. At one end you have a deer sanctuary and the other a stunning tall trees trail. When you live and travel in a van, you spend a lot of time driving. Half the time it's motorways but the other half...well, it can simply blow your mind. We are so happy we picked the New Forest to kick off our slow travel ethos. Honestly there is just so much to soak up and explore, there is a lot packed into 220 square miles. Have you driven the Ornamental Drive before? Did you pass the Knightwood oak, the tallest and most famous oak on the whole of the forest? If you want to learn how to practice slow living then I highly advise you try walking a cat! Honestly. It's a task you have to give your full attention too. Very different to walking a dog. We lead Frank whereas Murphy leads us. Often it's a slow walk. Taking a few steps then stopping to smell and take in the surroundings. You have no choice but to slow your pace entirely. Cats can scare easily so you have to be in the moment with them. Alert. Immersed. Hearing what they hear, seeing what they see. Honestly it's one of my most favourite tasks of the day. Well that did not go to plan 🤣🙈 Top bit of advice if you are planning to visit the new forest this month...invest in some wellies! (The entirety of the New Forest is made up of shingle layered on clay, so when it rains it floods) After trying to cross a flooded path, I managed to end up on all fours, covered in mud trying to jump over a stream...it was quite frankly hilarious. Who said walking has to be boring, as with everything in life, you just have to create the fun. Have you ever heard of pannage? Or I should ask, have you ever seen a wild boar roaming the New Forest alongside the horse, ponies,sheep and cow? In Autumn the 'commoners' that use the land for their free roaming animals, will also release pigs to roam free. The pigs eat all the fallen acorns and chestnuts which are poisonous to ponies. Most are rounded up come winter however some pigs evade recapture and can be found living wild in the forest. Since being in the New Forest we have managed to spot at least two wild boar roaming around...they say not to approach them but we didn't have that problem. They run away very fast!! Medieval practices still in place is what gives the new forest such enchantment. We live in a world where everything has to be new and improved...it's nice to see people using methods which haven't been touched by time. Have you been to the New Forest yet? We highly recommend it. Wild camping is a bit of a no go however there are affordable campsites dotted all around the area called camping in the new forest. Some sites are open now but all open on the 22nd march. Slow travel is suiting us so far, we've been vanlife - ing at the New Forest for two weeks and have another two here before our next destination. Early morning sunlight helps a better nights sleep ☀️ is something I recently learned. Sunlight sets our circadian rhythm. Seeing a bright light first thing resets your biological clock, giving you a natural day/night sleep pattern. This aids a much more restful and easy sleep. Laying in a dark room after waking up only confuses the cycle. Fascinating! I've always known of the benefits of vitamin D and sun exposure but I hadn't thought before on how it could impact your sleep. Part of our commitment to slow travel and slow living, is to really take the time to learn new things. Really immerse ourselves in this more outdoorsy way of life. Shinrin-yoku ✨ the Japanese practice of Forest bathing - it's not spiritual it's a science... I learned recently that just 2 nights and 3 days spent in a wooded space can increase your natural killer cells (nka) activity and volume for up to 7 days!! These cells combat infections and illness, which has even led researchers in Japan to start looking into the impact forest bathing could have on cancerous cells. Nature truly is amazing 💚The phytoncide emitted from trees will help improve both your mental and physical state. Its not a myth. Its not simply a spiritual act, although it can feel like one. It is in fact a measured science. Honestly it just blows my mind. Part of our commitment to slow living is to also slowly travel. Really soak up an area, learn, educate ourselves. Along with forest bathing we also learned about the annual pannage which happens every year in the New Forest, have you heard of it? This is one of the main reasons we love living vanlife so much, we have been in the forest for almost a week now. Taking time to be totally present in the moment. Let's be honest the whole stretch of the A82 in Scotland towards Glencoe village is absolutely stunning. I'm talking take your breath away, pinch yourself, type of beautiful. A vanlifers dream, there are so many stunning spots along the route, you are spoiled for choice. However the Kinghouse hotel is one we highly recommend adding to your Scotland Road trip itinerary. Full-time Vanlife Slow Living Travel...that's what we are dubbing it. We have the rest of our lives to explore and we have decided to take it travelling slowly. The past 8 months we haven't stopped, no complaints at all, but constantly moving just isn't sustainable. We came to this realisation when Old Gertie broke down and we're stuck in one spot. Rather then getting frustrated we embraced this stand still and really went to work on what this meant for us. After travelling in our T5 for five years, we just kind of rolled up what we knew into a full-time living. Which meant we were moving on almost daily. Sooooo we have decided we are going to start slow travelling. Finding a spot we like and staying put for a few weeks. Really explore the area. Allowing ourselves to be present without constantly thinking what's next. As I type this I am sat outside the garage waiting for Gertie to be seen, fingers crossed all goes well, we will be ready to put our new plan into action. We are thinking Cornwall for a month, then New Forest for a month...that's about as far as we have got. We are also going to use campsites more. We've felt guilty doing this before, as if we aren't doing this life justice...crazy I know!! Who cares hey. The key is to find what works for you. On that note, we are thinking an awning would be a welcomed summer extension so if any of you have an good recommendations then please do let me know ☺️(it will need to fit a Talbot Express). Day 229 of living full-time vanlife...we are still on a campsite, awaiting our mechanic to get Old Gertie girl in for her fix up. To be completely honest it really hasn't been that bad. Sure we had to cut our trip up north short. However we have managed to find a lovely little campsite and aside from us and one other crazy tent camper ☺️we have the whole place to ourselves. We are usng our standing still time to crack on with some work and van jobs whilst also getting some lovely long walks in. Well that was stressful! AA called out, tow truck booked and cancelled, over heating engines, lost indicators and no lights. A five hour drive becomes 10 hours! Absolute props to Trist for keeping us safe, that was the most stressful/dangerous drive we've had to date. Never have we been so grateful to finally stop. However when a problem has a solution then you just have to move forward. It's fixable. Back in the south near our mechanic and we hope she will go in Tuesday 🤞🏽 For now we are going to enjoy this little countryside campsite we have booked into. We felt it safest to be at a campsite whilst the Old Girl is playing up. Today we went for a lovely countryside ramble, getting back to the van just in time for this beautiful sunset. Day 224 of living full-time vanlife...the past 24 hours have been wild. Fully embracing Winter Vanlife in Wales 📍❄️ The walk to Jubilee tower is stunning. It is a climb but the views are simply spectacular. If you have a nervous dog this area is great for you as they request dogs on leads at all times...sadly they've lost sheep to dog attacks. Now I know we have been chasing the sun (optimistic I know) but instead we found snow and we aren't complaining. Vanlife living to the max...in one week we've been from Sussex, to Somerset, to Shropshire and now Wales. Old Gertie has covered some miles. Anyone else completely loose their mind when you come across a shower with good pressure, heat and space to change...no? just me then 🤣😂 We have a shower in Gertie but you've seen how compact she is, it's not a luxury experience 🙈 So when you come across a good campsite shower, it feels like you've struck gold!!! This one has been the best yet!!! Five gold stars!! We found a new campsite, just opened this year, in Shropshire. It's called Stoney Acres. It's pitched as luxury and you can see why, although it's not priced that way. £30 a night for electric hook up and free use of the brand new washer dryer. A lovely little site, perfect for a day of doing van jobs. They have everything you need. Now old Gerties has had a reset, us too...we are back on the road ready for adventure. Today we have been curled up in the van working, staying on a farm estate tonight ☺️ (good old Britstops) hoping for some better weather tomorrow. Walk with us 📍Grey Mares Tail to Loch Skeen in Moffat Scotland Full disclaimer, this was filmed on a particularly stunning day last September ☺️ We stayed at Grey Mares Tail two times before we did the hike to Loch Skeen. Now it's a requirement everytime we visit. It's a 2.75 mile hike from the grey mares tail carpark to Loch Skeen at the top of the hill. The initial climb is taxing I won't lie. Plus if you have a fear of heights like myself it does get quite close at the top. Manageable but be prepared. Once at the top you are about half way there. A flat walk following the stream the path opens to loch Skeen. It's truly breathtaking. The sights combined with the silence is magic. The carpark is National trust, chargeable to non members by day. Vanlife in Scotland has ruined us. The remoteness you get to experience when you are there is unmatched in the rest of the UK. Don't get me wrong, there are some stunning spots but there are definitely more people and after being on the edge of a city for the last couple of weeks we realised we are craving wilderness. So our original plan to head to Cornwall and chase the weather is now, head north and find the wild ☺️ Currently in Shropshire we have no idea where to head next so any and all suggestions welcome...why do I feel we will be heading for the Northumberland 250 after all 🙈 You guys were right, we should have listened to you!! Since moving full-time into vanlife travel we have been trying to master the act of slow living. It's a project in progress. But what is slow living? Put simply, it's a focus on quality over quantity. It's not about doing less, it's doing more of what serves you. Born from the slow food movement in the 1980's this thought concept has been around for a while. We live in a world in constant acceleration, we are running to keep up and it's exhausting. Enter the slow living movement. This doesn't mean doing less, it's just about doing things with intention. Being present in the moment. Find joy in the the things around you, training your mind to be still rather then wander. By being intentional in your actions you soon start to filter the moments which don't serve you well. We sleep walk through so much of our day without realising, our bodies and minds totally disconnected. Slow living is about bringing everything back into alignment. Working with yourself rather then against yourself will create a stronger mindset which improves productivity. Our 213th day of vanlife in the UK. I don't know if it's getting older or someone is playing a trick on me but time flies!! Seven months into vanlife and it's been one hell of an amazing adventure already. So many lessons and blessings in such a short space of time, adventure really wakens all your senses that's for sure ❤️ And to be able to live so close to nature, wow. A ten second van tour of Old Gertie. To be honest I don't really know how to film a van tour in little old Gertie 🤣 We can't open the doors as it's freezing outside and there are only so many angles you can get inside a small space 😆 Gertie is much more then she looks though. This little reel does not do her justice. She is only 5 metres long yet inside you have... A kitchen with an oven, two hobs, a grill, sink and draining board. A shower room with toilet. A living room with multiple options of seating layout A queen size bed (All be it a bit lumpy if the truth be told 🤣) A small double up top Hot water Heating Oh and panoramic views from anywhere inside the van All of that in such a small space. Blows our minds you can fit basically what you have in a house into a van 🤯 For us, the only thing she is missing is a boot, a spare bed and we won't lie, a permanent bed would be bliss. Not only would that mean not having to set up and put down the bed (which can all in, take longer then you think) every day. It would also mean a lump free sleep. However that's the beautiful thing, living so small. The things you will be/are grateful for are the things you once took for granted. Your life feels richer. You feel blessed. Now we live in a van it's so nice to be able to slow our pace. To really soak in the areas we visit rather than feeling we need to move on, to see more. We've used the facilities at Glencoe ski resort before but never stayed. We are not really sure why. Its the most incredible spot. The carpark is huge so plenty of space, the staff are lovely, there is an onsite cafe and all the facilities you could need. And the views. I mean wow!! Plus the west highland way runs right along next to the resort. You couldn't write it!!! Since we finished filming today's reel we have run out of gas, been locked out the van due to frozen locks and snapped our door handle clean off. Oh and I should also mention Old Gertie seems to have an electrical issue which is draining her battery, even our portable jump starter couldn't get her started this morning. Thank heavens for a fellow vanlifer who got us going. Soooo tonight and tomorrow should be interesting 🤣😂🙈 Trist is currently charging the eco flow in the pub (which closes in 4 mins) in the hope we can plug in a heater for at least an hour. I am genuinely smiling whilst I write this, no complaints, all just part of living in a home on wheels which is over 30 years old. Still a million times luckier then a lot of people, something I hope we never lose sight of. What is it they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger...and Gertie girl is certainly giving us a lesson in patience and presence!! Free to fulltime vanlifers!! Wow. What an incredible place. Run by fellow vanlifers who want to give back. It's not just a campsite but a community. Those living full-time in their vans are welcomed to park up in a woodland corner of the campsite. We genuinely couldn't believe it. What a privilege. The paid pictches are placed overlooking the valley with breathtaking views. A hotel with both a restaurant and a cafe with various shepherds huts to rent, this little place has it all. Did I mention it's right next to the west highland way, so you can imagine how stunning the walks are from this spot. A vanlife reality when Winter vanlife - ING in Scotland ❄️ We seem to of had a run of it the last couple of days, you wait until tomorrow's reel 🤣🙈 although if you follow our stories you will already know...our 24 hour run of bad luck turned into 48 hours. It was only after we attempted the Gorge walk did we see the signs saying there had been fatal accidents on this hike...covered in ice that seemed even more likely. I was genuinely scared at points. We made it out though, good old Gertie, and made our way back to Fort William. We've seen the overnight spot before but a carpark in the middle of town isn't our usual choice. However after the day we had it was exactly what we needed. Funny how these things work out. We had hoped today would have worked out a little differently but alas, the balance of vanlife strikes. There are lows to vanlife. Of course there are. Thats just the balance. Nothings perfect, it doesn't exist. However when somewhere like this becomes the place you live in that moment. Wow. It takes living in a van to a whole new level. It's balance you learn to be grateful for. Glencoe is our favourite place in Scotland, yet most times we've been before we have stopped, then moved on through. Always rushing. We can't leave! 📍👇🏽 (+📋 3 walks in Glencoe) Glencoe has stolen our hearts 🫶🏽 Everytime we've been vanlife'ing in Scotland we race through. It's easily done. There is just so much to soak in. So much to see. However this time's been different. I don't know if it's because we now live in our van full-time, the never ending adventure ☺️, or that we are just settling into travel but we learning to slow it down. To not rush from place to place, it's been lovely. The fact that Glencoe is so well set up for winter vanlife is also a blessing. With public showers at both Glencoe and the King's house hotel, toilets at both plus extras at the ski resort eg electricity etc you can't go wrong. Chatting to another vanlife adventurer today he also said it's great in the winter as the gritters keep the A82 completely clear of snow which makes access to this winter wonderland so much easier. If you are heading to Glencoe in Scotland we recommend all three walks we have done in order of difficulty... 📍Creag Dubh Summit - start at Glencoe ski resort 📍West highland way - not all 96 miles but a part of it ☺️ 📍An Tor and Signal Rock colour graded trails Or follow the loop we created, after leaving the cottage cross back over the road to the river Coe and follow it all the way back to the carpark. Plus if you are lucky you may see the stag which frequents the spot ☺️ We know we have to move on and leave Glencoe and if it wasn't for needing gas we would stay. It's our heaven. 📍Glencoe Ski Resort - the perfect 24 hours for any adventure vanlifer!!! Parking in the carpark you pay £3 a day and £5 overnight. There is black waste disposal for £5. Electrify for £15. Showers £1 for 5 mins...with free drying rooms as well! With the Summit of Creag Dubh as your back drop and Black Mountain as your view it makes this the perfect adventure point. The west highland way also runs from the bottom of the Ski resort which we went off exploring today. Honestly I dont know where they get it from the french bulldogs don't need much exercise. This little guy could walk for hours and he does. Tucked up fast asleep now, we are looking through the footage from today and wow!! We can't wait to show you. A very Scottish day 💙 We stocked up on our Scottish treats and headed for loch Lomond I mean what a way to kick off the weekend ☺️ After a peaceful night's sleep we were joined quite early by cyclists and walkers. Why is it, even in a huge empty carpark people park next to you. Always super loud as well. Like, I'm sorry Sally, we aren't all 7am hikers 🤣 Anywho...great spot ☺️ 24 hour toilets. Amazing forest tracks and only £7 a night. Message if you want the location. After working and signing off for the weekend we hit the road picking up treats along the way. Headed to loch Lomond, it hasn't disappointed. We spent the last of the light exploring with Frank until sundown when the sky lit up with stars. Our first full day in Scotland and it feels so good to be back. Vanlife in Scotland is just so much easier then England and Wales and it's instantly noticeable. We had the pick of park ups today and each one as welcoming as the next. Such a lovely feeling. We didn't drive far from the border today though as we really wanted to get out and stretch our legs after yesterday's drive...and that we did. Such a stunning walk off into the forest, wandering until the sun began to set we couldn't believe how mild it still felt. It's January in Scotland!
