Some stuff in Metal Gear that is surprisingly real

Sikorsky Cypher (first in-game appearance: Metal Gear Solid 2)

Bartini Beriev VVA-14 (first in-game appearance Metal Gear Solid 3, although it’s an anachronism, Operation Snake Eater happens in 1964, but VVA-14′s first flight was in 1972)

Fulton Surface-to-Air Recovery System (in-game appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3 by technicality, but has more important role in Peace Walker and Phantom Pain)

Lockheed MC-130E Combat Talon I (first in-game appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3, but is also an anachronism, since Combat Talon was in development in 1964).

Object 279 (first in-game appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3).

Lockheed AH-56 Cheyenne (First appearance in Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker)

McDonnell Douglas TAV-8B Harrier II (first appearance in Metal Gear Solid 2)

Disclaimer: Harrier (II) itself is a well known vehicle by far, but the model used in game is based on the trainer variant, which is, in real life, unarmed.

Above: Lockheed D-21

Below: Lockheed M-21, the UAV carrier variant of Lockheed A-12 (predecessor of SR-71; first in-game appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3, although D-21 is completely unmanned, contrary to its portrayal in-game).

Williams X-Jet (first appearance in Metal Gear Solid 3, but also an anachronism, since it was developed in the 1970′s, also it’s an American thing).

There’s probably more, but I would deem these as the most surprising.
