About this event

Arguably the finest short walks in the Highlands. Our route heads through the dramatic Nevis Gorge where the water has scoured and carved the rocks over millennia to create impressive rock sculptures. As the river cascades over huge fallen boulders, the path climbs gradually, passing numerous water slides descending from Ben Nevis. As the trees and narrow gorge are left behind, the glen's crowning glory is revealed. Cascading over 105m, Steall Falls are the third highest in the UK. For those who are brave enough, the cable bridge, spanning the river provides an exhilarating, high wire balancing act and the opportunity to climb directly beneath the falls for that close-up pic. Continuing past the falls our route crosses the lush pastures of Steall Meadow and continues to Steall Ruins which date from the 1700's and which were used by shepherds as recently as the 1940's. On a fine day in Spring or Summer, the meadows are the idyllic spot for a picnic. Tartan picnic blanket optional!
