The member of the CPSU since 1943, from 1940 he became main designer for the development of the medium T-34 tank in 1940. The T-34 was the most mass-produced tank of WWII.

The monument was erected in 1975 on the place where an important tank battle between the armoured troops of the 2nd Ukrainian Front of the Red Army and the Wehrmacht took place on 16 April 1945. During this battle, the Soviet T-34-85 medium tank number 200 under command of junior lieutenant Ivan Mirenkov broke through behind enemy lines and destroyed three German tanks.
